Onside Celebrates Flexible and Family-friendly Ways of Working
National Work Life Week 2025
Every year, National Work Life Week 2025, run by Working Families, is a chance to focus on wellbeing at work and the importance of supporting employees with caring responsibilities – which come in many different forms.
The 2025 campaign, Flex for All 2025, highlights the reality for millions of people: flexible working isn’t a perk - it’s a necessity. From dads on the school run to unpaid carers, adoptive parents, and those supporting older relatives, flexibility should be the norm, not the exception. Yet many of the UK’s 13 million working parents and 3 million unpaid carers still don’t have the flexibility they need.
At Onside Accounting and Onside Tax, we’ve shown it doesn’t have to be this way. As a fully remote firm, we’ve built flexibility into our culture from day one, proving that remote accounting careers can support real work-life balance and professional excellence.
A 100% remote, flexible working model at Onside Accounting
We’ve always worked from home, which means we can attract brilliant people from across the UK, wherever they live. For many of our team, that freedom has been life-changing. Meet Olivia, Hannah and Sam, three members of the team sharing why our homeworking policy works for them.
Olivia lives in Wales:
“Living in rural Wales, it can be more challenging to find career opportunities, so I feel very lucky to have found Onside – a dynamic, forward-thinking company with a homeworking policy that has opened the door to an incredible career opportunity.” – Olivia Harris
I believe it is fair to say we are all envious of Olivia's countryside views!
Hannah has two young children:
“Working full-time and being able to drop off and pick up my 3- and 5-year-old three days a week feels like such a gift. Those little moments - the morning chatter, the after-school stories, being part of homework time while cooking dinner and eating together - these are the best reminders of who I do it all for.
"Being fully remote means no wasted hours commuting and more time where it matters most. It’s allowed me to be present as a mum and fully engaged in my career without feeling like I’m compromising either.” - Hannah Gillan
We know that so many parents and their children value the time to commit to the school run.
Sam was looking for a career on a part-time basis:
“The opportunity to work part-time with flexibility is key in my role as a busy working parent. I need to take my son to school and pick him up - and I didn't want to ever miss a Sports Day! – Sam McMillen
Offering flexibility can be lifechanging for parents juggling childcare and work, removing stress and opening up opportunity.
ACCA Approved Employer
Flexibility at Onside goes hand-in-hand with career development. As an ACCA Approved Employer,we support staff to grow professionally while still having space for family life.
Our “service first, profit second” approach means we grow in a way that protects both staff and clients. In Q4 2024, we brought in 14 new team members before taking on more clients - a deliberate decision to keep workloads manageable, protect wellbeing and maintain quality.
Our culture is defined by support and collaboration, with employees noting they “never feel alone in our homeworking environment.” Regular surveys and feedback highlight the genuine care that runs through the business, creating a place where flexibility, connection and career growth go hand in hand.
Martin Brennan, Founder and CEO at Onside Accounting, said:
“Flexibility has never been a bolt-on for us - it’s who we are. By being 100% remote, we can offer career opportunities that fit around people’s lives, not the other way around. National Work Life Week is a brilliant reminder that businesses thrive when their people do, and we’re proud to show that flexibility and high performance go hand in hand.”
